Parachinar Struggles Amid Road Closures, Peace Agreement Moves Forward

In the first phase of the peace agreement between tribal elders in Kurram district, bunkers in the Khar Kali and Balishkhel areas were demolished. The operation was carried out by police and security forces, with the help of explosives and aerial support from helicopters. This move followed the Kohat peace agreement, which called for the removal of bunkers to promote peace.

However, Parachinar is facing severe difficulties due to road closures that have lasted for over 100 days because of the ongoing security situation. This has caused shortages of food, medicines, and other essential goods. Traders have closed their shops in protest, and doctors at the District Headquarters Hospital report a lack of medicine and inability to refer critically ill patients to hospitals outside the area due to the road blockades.

Local residents, including tribal elder Jalal Bangash and activist Mir Afzal Khan, have called on the government to reopen the roads and implement all provisions of the peace agreement. They also appealed to international organizations like UNICEF and the World Health Organization for help. The government has assured that the peace agreement will be fully implemented, with more relief convoys expected to bring supplies.
