Cabinet approves Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline.
The Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE) has authorized the construction of an 80-kilometer segment of the Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline within Pakistan. This portion, stretching from the border to Gwadar, constitutes the project’s initial phase. Inter State Gas Systems (Pvt) Ltd. will oversee the implementation, with funding secured through the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC).
The decision received unanimous support from all relevant divisions, signaling a collective effort to address Pakistan’s energy needs. By initiating work on this segment, the government aims to enhance energy security and meet the growing demand for natural gas.
In addition to energy provision, the project is expected to boost confidence within the local industry, promoting productivity and economic growth. Moreover, it is anticipated to spur economic activity in Baluchistan, potentially generating employment and fostering socio-economic progress in the region.
Overall, the approval to proceed with the IP gas pipeline segment underscores the government’s commitment to addressing energy challenges, stimulating economic development, and fostering regional cooperation.
