Imran Khans Cipher Claim: A Political Narrative Not Foreign Interference

The cipher that former Prime Minister Imran Khan claims proves US involvement in his removal actually contains 11 points, not just one page, according to insider sources. Nine of these points are about trade and human smuggling, while only two mention concerns raised by US official Donald Lu, which Khan later used to support his narrative of a conspiracy.

The cipher was a summary of a discussion between Pakistan’s ambassador and Lu. The ambassador had informed Lu about his transfer to Belgium and raised concerns about Pakistan’s relationship with the US. Lu’s response included complaints about Khan’s criticism of the US and support for the Taliban, but these were not threats or a sign of interference. The cipher went through several officials before reaching Khan, and later, the army chief, General Bajwa, also received it.

Despite this, Khan chose to use the cipher politically, claiming US involvement in a regime change. Sources indicate that his government invited Lu to events even after the cipher’s contents were shared, questioning the alleged conspiracy. Khan’s aides and former ministers, including Shafqat Mehmood, have since confirmed that there was no foreign interference in his government’s downfall.
