Historic Day for Pakistan 26th Constitutional Amendment Passed
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called Sunday a historic day for Pakistan after the National Assembly passed the 26th Constitutional Amendment. He emphasized that the decision shows the supremacy of parliament, with 225 members voting in favor of the bill, including support from independent lawmakers, while the PTI party did not participate.
The amendment includes significant judicial reforms, such as appointing the Chief Justice of Pakistan through a parliamentary committee, who will serve a fixed term of three years. New constitutional benches will be established, and a committee will recommend candidates for the Chief Justice from the three most senior judges.

PM Shehbaz highlighted that this amendment symbolizes unity across political lines and aims to improve access to justice for ordinary Pakistanis, many of whom have waited years for their cases to be resolved. He also paid tribute to past leaders like Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, acknowledging their roles in shaping these reforms.
He expressed regret over the PTI’s absence during the vote but insisted that the amendment represents the true will of the elected representatives and is a victory for Pakistan’s future. The prime minister concluded by thanking those who supported the passage of the amendment.
