Ali Amin Gandapur running for KP CM independently.
Ali Amin Gandapur, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and the expected Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has chosen not to join the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC). Instead, he plans to run independently for the top provincial position, with support from PTI members who have joined the SIC. These PTI-backed winners joined the SIC to secure their seats, which are reserved for women and religious minority members.
Gandapur, who won from Dera Ismail Khan, is also competing for the position of PTI’s provincial president in the party’s upcoming intra-party elections on March 3. Meanwhile, another PTI member, Ali Asghar, has submitted papers for the provincial general secretary position.
On the other hand, Aqibullah Khan, nominated by PTI for the KP Assembly office, will contest for the position as a candidate of the SIC.
Gandapur has been busy shortlisting names for the KP cabinet, with the final decisions pending approval from PTI’s founding chairman, Imran Khan. The PTI is also considering several candidates for the deputy speaker position, with the announcement expected soon.
In response, opposition parties have decided to field candidates for the chief minister, speaker, and deputy speaker slots. They plan to announce unanimous aspirants after a meeting.
Gandapur reiterated his commitment to democratic values and serving the people if elected as CM. He emphasized improving law and order, implementing health initiatives, providing shelter, and initiating police reforms. Despite challenges, he aims to ensure a uniform education system and overcome resource limitations.
The KP Assembly session is set for February 28, with oath-taking and elections scheduled. While Gandapur prepares for intra-party polls and CM candidacy, opposition parties plan protests during the assembly session.
