Muzaffarabad (staff Report)Journalists Protest Against PECA Act and False Cases, Clash Feared

Muzaffarabad On the call of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), journalists from across the country gathered in Muzaffarabad and staged a protest outside the Assembly. The protest was led by PFUJ President Afzal Butt, with representatives from various journalist organizations also in attendance.

Protesters raised strong slogans against the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and the false cases filed against journalists. They demanded an immediate repeal of repressive laws and restrictions imposed on press freedom.

PFUJ President Afzal Butt stated:
“Black laws and fake cases are being used to suppress journalists. We have raised the flag of truth and will not bow before anyone. Our protest will continue until complete protection for press freedom is ensured.”

President of Working Journalists, Shahid Akhtar Awan, added:
“Today is a black day for journalists. We reject these oppressive regulations. In a country where police stations decide whether news is right or wrong, press freedom no longer exists.”

Strict security measures were in place during the protest, with heavy police deployment outside the Assembly. Law enforcement remained on high alert amid fears of a possible clash between protesters and security personnel.

Journalist leaders warned that if the harassment of journalists does not stop, the protest will escalate into a nationwide movement.
