Shabnim Ismail, 1st female cricketer to bowl 130kmph!
South African cricketer Shabnim Ismail, the only Muslim woman to play international cricket for her country, made history by bowling the fastest ball in women’s cricket. During a match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League in Bengaluru and Delhi, she clocked 130 kmph, becoming the first female bowler to achieve this milestone.
Representing Mumbai Indians, Shabnim bowled the record-breaking ball at 132.1 kmph against Australian captain Meg Lanning at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. This wasn’t her first time setting such a record; she had bowled at 128 kmph against West Indies in 2016 and twice at 127 kmph during the ICC Women’s World Cup.
At 35 years old, Shabnim continues to demonstrate her exceptional skills. Her achievement adds to her legacy as one of the most formidable bowlers in women’s cricket.
