IHC Demands Clarity on Imran Khans Potential Military Trial
On Monday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) asked the government to provide more information about the potential military trial of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, who is accused of involvement in the May 9 riots. Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb presided over the hearing on Khan’s petition against the possibility of a military trial.
Justice Aurangzeb pointed out that the government had not given clear answers and allowed the Ministry of Defence until the next hearing to clarify its position. The court set the next session for September 24.
The case gained attention after comments from government officials suggested Khan might face a military trial. In July last year, a Lahore anti-terrorism court found enough evidence to link Khan to the May 9 riots, which saw attacks on military installations

The Supreme Court had previously declared military trials of civilians invalid, though this ruling was later suspended. During the hearing, Justice Aurangzeb requested information on the procedures for military custody and trials, emphasizing that any such trial would require prior notice. The Defence Ministry assured that it has a clear procedure for these cases.
