Haripur (Hum Gawah)
The difficulties for Deputy Commissioner Haripur have increased, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission has regularly summoned them to hear two complaints for failing to provide the right information. According to a notification issued by the Commission, the hearing of the Complaint No. 11885 and 11111 will be held at the Divisional Office Abbottabad, District Council Hall at 10 am on April 24, 2025, when journalist Shahid Akhtar Awan filed a petition against the alleged financial irregularities at Haripur. He says that millions of rupees were being received in the name of services at the center, but no regular bank account was opened for this, nor did he make Haripur according to PC One. He said that when he applied in TI under Right to Information Act, thenInstead of providing information they were threatened
Shahid Akhtar Awan believes that this behavior is not only a serious violation of the law but also an attack on journalism freedom and public rights information.
The Commission has made it clear in its notification that the Deputy Commissioner and the Public Information Officer (PIO) should be present at the appointed time with all relevant records so that complaints can be possible. Experts say that if officers do not follow or refrain from hearing the commission’s orders, they may face legal complications and potential disciplinary action.
The matter has become a serious challenge for the district administration in both legal and administrative respects, which has raised many questions on transparency, accountability and implementation of public rights information.
