Mr Justice Yahya Afridi A Profile
Early Life and Education
Mr. Justice Yahya Afridi was born on January 23, 1965, in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He comes from a notable background in the Federally Administered Tribal Area (F.R. Kohat).
He completed his O and A Levels at Aitchison College in Lahore, graduating in 1980 and 1982. He then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from Government College Lahore in 1985. Following this, he obtained his LL.B from Punjab University in 1988 and later a Master’s in Economics in 1989. In 1990, he earned an LL.M from Jesus College, Cambridge University, UK.
Honors and Teaching
Justice Afridi received several honors during his education, including the Umar Hayat Gold Medal for Best Sportsman at Aitchison College and serving as the Head Boy. He also won a scholarship from the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office. He was part of the Cambridge University Polo Team and participated in the Commonwealth Young Lawyers Course in London.
From 1991 to 2005, he was a visiting professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Peshawar.
Legal Career
Justice Afridi began his legal career in 1991 when he became an Advocate of the High Court and later an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2004. His work experience includes positions as an Associate at Orr, Dignam & Co. in Karachi, an intern in London, and roles as Assistant Advocate General and Federal Counsel for the Government of Pakistan. He was also a partner at Afridi, Shah & Minallah from 1997 to 2012.

Judicial Career
He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Peshawar High Court on March 15, 2010, and confirmed as a permanent judge two years later. Justice Afridi has served in various capacities, including as Inspection Judge for multiple districts and as Chairman of the Labour Appellate Tribunal.
Administrative Roles
Justice Afridi has held numerous administrative positions, including leading the Automation Committee of the Peshawar High Court and serving on the National Judicial Automation Committee. He was also involved in initiatives to enhance environmental justice.
Training and Conferences
He has attended several national and international conferences on criminal justice, human rights, and environmental issues, presenting papers on various legal topics.
Chief Justice
On December 30, 2016, he took oath as the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court, continuing his commitment to justice and legal reform in Pakistan.
