Justice Yahya Afridi Named Pakistans 30th Chief Justice
President Asif Ali Zardari has appointed Justice Yahya Afridi as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan, succeeding Qazi Faez Isa. His three-year term begins on October 26. This appointment follows a new process established by the 26th Constitutional Amendment, allowing the Special Parliamentary Committee to recommend candidates. The committee, which included members from all political parties, nominated Afridi with a two-thirds majority. However, the opposition party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), boycotted the committee meetings and has rejected Afridi’s nomination, planning to protest against it.
